Plastic Valley – Joshua Tree
If you’re a musician looking to grow more in your ability, I really hope that you turn up early to all of your classes. If you’re serious about learning, you should be praised and encouraged to take as many classes and get as deep into as much study material as you are able to. Those are all great things that will help you to gain more information.
But you should know that when it comes to pop-rock music, the likelihood of writing a timeless classic falls drastically the closer you get to becoming a true master of your instrument or the theory behind composition. Lit teachers rarely produce great novels, and music teachers rarely write hits. They’re too busy thinking about the bolts and screws of novels and songs.
The fact that nobody got their hands on the hook of the mellow psych-rockers Plastic Valley and their song “Joshua Tree” should be an encouragement to anyone who owns a guitar and only knows three chords. “Joshua Tree” is absolutely captivating, fully engulfing, and incredibly obvious. You wonder why you haven’t thought about it, and the reason is probably because you haven’t been struck by genius. The folks in Plastic Valley have it, and they got the recording to prove it, too.
Devin Johnson – Trump Ruined My Sex Life
We’re stuck with the famous politicians and pop stars of our time. But it’s just as good because they are stuck with us, too. Our lives run parallel to each other until they don’t and crash.
Ancient kings of England and France must’ve thought they would never have to meet, let alone listen to the grievances of regular people. Yet, history played a surprising prank, and some of their heads ended up being used as footballs for the unwashed masses.
Similarly, your greatest years will be measured by the number of U.S. elections you were able to watch. Your eras will coincide with those in which one billionaire or another made the cover of some magazine or another. Tough luck.
But let’s not close our eyes to the boring and important world events around us. Filled with humour and cheap drugs, Devin Johnson’s “Trump Ruined My Sex Life” is a hazy flip through the channels on television. Nah, there’s nothing on, but that won’t stop this from being a pivotal time in the world’s history. It still gets Devin Johnson smiling and playing songs as he and his band are trying to invent Woodstock for a generation that wouldn’t protest a war unless it was happening adjacent to their favourite Starbucks.
