public access park – freezing

Just watch a tutorial about how to arrange a modern pop song, and you’ll instantly have to get your notebook out and start writing. There’s simply too much information for you to memorise otherwise.

The fact of the matter is that modern pop hits, for the most part, are constructed by layering instruments over instruments and a great number of sound textures. You may not hear it blasting from your radio, but you’ll feel it there.

This is why the nouvelle goth bands of recent years have consciously taken a different approach. These bands need to engineer a melancholy-filled atmosphere, and groups like public access park know that too much information kills that.

“freezing” is a very apt cold-wave single, especially because of the way that it’s constructed. The music is meant to suggest loneliness and desolation, but also feels like the final moments in a film before a murder or a knife fight might occur. Cleverly, public access park let the audience fill in the details of the frost-covered tale.

Noir Addiction – Serve Me Some Crime

Intention, as you probably know, is the greatest tool that a magician, or anyone who tries to change reality, has. Being earnest is fine and is sure to please your parents and your teachers, but it is not the thing that helps you achieve goals.

That intention must be reflected in all the things that you do in order to deliver a message. It has to be felt in the way that you speak, the way that you walk, and, especially, the way that you dress.

Presentation is everything! If it wasn’t, corrupt politicians announcing the random bombing campaign of a free nation would just dress in a clown suit while giving their message. Noir Addiction understand presentation better than most.

The first thing to notice about Noir Addiction is that they use imagery, what you think a dark-sounding rock band looks like, to the band’s advantage. However, on “Serve Me Some Crime,” the Italian group also blends elements related to post-punk, goth-rock and even a bit of industrial-style Manson to get its sound across.
