RANXO RELAXO – Disco Muerte

People love stereotypes because they allow their brains to remain as lazy as they always have. And when it comes to the minority made up of millions of rock listeners, the stereotype promoted by the layman, pop-listening adversaries is that rockers are merely interested in aggressively played music and violent or sinister subject matter.

This impression has turned out to be something of a self-fulfilling prophecy. For the most part, the only songs that concern themselves with topics outside of love, fun, and heartache are rock songs. And, just as well, if you’re looking to soundtrack mysterious occurrences or dark, bizarre, fear-inducing fantasies, it’s likely, once again, rock music that you’ll have to turn to for help.

Spanish debutants RANXO RELAXO are hoping to turn into your band of choice to accompany late-night walks in deserted places and the thrills that these kinds of activities can activate. “Disco Muerte” is a convincing goth-tinged first foray into creating punchy, modern post-punk music. The band’s stated goal is to inject a bit of excitement into this style of music that’s become a little too predictable lately. And, if this single is any indicator, things may just line up well for the new group.

Billy King & The Bad Bad Bad – Big News Coming

The Revolution’s probably started, and it’s likely to be terrifying. Nah, this time it isn’t being started by the people waving banners and protesting in the streets, although this lot is certainly helping move things along to their natural conclusion.

Unlike the French Revolution, this isn’t even getting its start from intellectuals debating philosophy in some wine cellar and ending their meetings by collectively sharpening their spears and axes.

It’s being sparked by our shared dissatisfaction, lack of faith in our leaders, and the belief that they’re plotting to get us, and that we should do something about it first. No, it doesn’t even matter if our feelings are based on fact. It never does!

Billy King & The Bad Bad Bad’s cleverly titled “Big News Coming” captures our growing sense of paranoia that one morning we’re all going to wake up in some kind of cage. It’s a punchy, fun song. But it’s an important one, as well. It’s the proverbial calm before the storm, before crowds start charging.
