Rufus Coates & Jess Smith – Modern Day Cathedral

Rufus Coates & Jess Smith - Modern Day Cathedral indie rock 2020 review

Rufus Coates inspires authority like a young dictator in front of people that will not dare challenge him. His vocals seem programmed on a quiet diet of indignation and lack of natural light.

Modern Day Cathedral is a blues ceremony against greed and consumerism. The tune operates with loaded silence, like a man not quite ready to explode into a fit of anger. But, like the Bad Seeds’ in full fighting spirit, the song turns into a blaze, as promised, before blowing itself out.
