russell collective x briandina – Pick Somebody Else

For as long as there’s been pop music, singers have been desperate to sing in time and in tune, as if not doing this would curse them to a life of endless ridicule and misery.

Singers take classes, practice every day and go to sleep praying that they’ll make no mistakes. If they really master the art of singing, then they end up sounding just like everybody else who’s ever got in front of a mike.

But that never works. The most memorable singers in rock, for example, had something wrong with their tone or their delivery and made it work for them. I’d rather listen to John Lydon any day ahead of anyone, whatever version of American Idol that still exists.

russell collective x briandina are also fans of quirks and idiosyncrasies. They bring to the performance of “Pick Somebody Else,” a lo-fi indie-rock tune where colouring outside the lines is very much encouraged. At times, the vocals sound like a cat meowing in front of well-cooked fish that’s being withheld from them. “Pick Somebody Else” features a strong performance, one that sets the music apart.

TOTAL REVERENDS – The Revolution is Inevitable

Sometimes actions are more important than intentions. Oftentimes, telling the truth shows more bravery than disciplining yourself to keep your mouth shut. And, in this time and age, these things may well turn out to be quite important.

Are we living through another great depression? Are we on the brink of political upheaval on a global scale? The statistics reassure us that we’re not. The politicians reassure us that they’ve taken measures that will please us.

But that’s not important. What’s important is how people feel. A crisis isn’t triggered by events, but by the way the population interprets them. And, right now, as Total Reverends understands, most of the world is desperate for big changes to occur.

Why? Because of the endless corruption, lies and the obscene power commanded by a small group of people. We need protest songs! “The Revolution is Inevitable” is even more than that. It’s a garage-rock list of reasons for why great changes are on the way and why ordinary people just won’t take it anymore. Total Reverends aren’t going for finesse here, but for righteous anger.
