Serj Tankian’s Songs Penned for System of a Down to Receive Solo EP Release

Singer Serj Tankian confirmed that he will release a brand new solo EP in February 2021 titled Elasticity. The EP will comprise songs the musician had intended to be part of a System of a Down project.

It is common knowledge that SOAD was inactive for a large time. During this period, the four group members sought to find the common creative ground. Tankian first the songs that will comprise Elasticity to his bad mates. For various reasons, stemming from creative reasons, the group never recorded the songs. Instead, now, Tankian is releasing the songs on his own.

Tankian talked about the attemptes to record the music as part of a future SOAD album and the breakdown in communication between the members. Thematically, the singer says, that the songs run the gamut, much like the famous band’s most famous work. He says that themes range from terrorism, to Armenian protest, to his itnerst in the poet Rumi.

System of a Down did finally release new music in 2021. The two songs, Protect the land and Genocidal Humandoidz were put out as a way to draw attention to the 2020 Armenian–Azerbaijani military conflict. The songs received a mixed reception from fans of the group.
