Nothing straight enough to rebel against: Steve Hensby Band and Captain WildChild review

Steve Hensby Band and Captain WildChild review

Captain WildChild – Speed

Genre: Alternative Rock

No matter where in the world you happen to live in, your best bet at surviving and prospering is to hide yourself in the background. There aren’t any places where tall poppies are celebrated. Yes, there are places where diversity is praised by authorities. But, for your own sake, it’s best not to let them catch daring to be too particular.

More than anything, you quickly learn that it’s unwise to cause much noise. This is something that is positively frowned upon in all corners of the world. You must speak in a mild-mannered tone, answer when questioned, and maintain your enthusiasm at a well-respectable level. Nothing fancy!

Garage rock is the promise that a loud guitar and a scream can go a long way to changing the world. Captain WildChild’s Speed is built upon this very philosophy. This is not music meant to inspire you to better yourself or to help you wallow in despair. This is rock n’ roll meant to make you believe that one perfect moment can last forever. All you need to do is shout about it!

Steve Hensby Band – Hairy Man in a Waxed World

Genre: Garage Rock

If you ask me whether in this life it is better to be happy or to be sad, I would answer that you’d likely desire the first. But, I would add that you shouldn’t expect to make much great rock music. That’s not a tragedy! Far from it! The world needs accountants, politicians, and store clerks. You can be happy that way.

Rockers, however, need conflict to spark their creative work. It can help them become extraordinary artists and, usually, really nasty people to be around. Their own families will feel sorry for having to live in their presence, and even their biographers won’t shy from calling them out.

Steve Hensby Band’s Hairy Man in a Waxed World shows a band looking for conflict and ready to seek it under any rock. This is a garage-rock number sung by someone that sounds like a hippie that has just woken up a few decades too late. There are plenty of straights, plenty of rules, and not enough people looking to do something about it. Steve Hensby won’t take this lying down.
