Sun the Silent Killer – Around the Horn
The people whoa re massively successful are hardly ever also happy. If they’d stop to be happy, they would just stop working on the thing that makes them successful. And, only naturally, for most people, that thing, the one that makes others envy them, is what they use to define their entire personality. Contentment would be counterproductive.
There’s no telling what angry, success-bound people would do to make themselves feel better and to achieve even greater victories. Just pick up a biography of any businessman or athlete who has been deceased long enough, and you’ll find a few dead bodies buried in the bushes on the road to achieving their dreams.
Successful people rarely stop to smell the roses and are even less likely to direct the anger that drives them into something pretty, something like a song. Sun the Silent Killer’s “Around the Horn” is a song that utilises the old, sinister energy of grunge to dig up some buried corpses of memories. Sun the Silent Killer’s singer, F, isn’t just good at recalling rock musical past, but also his own. The lyrics to “Around the Horn” describe a lifelong grudge and obsession. Great! That’s the kind of spirit that captains of industry build their reputations around. Fortunately, for now, Silent Killer is utilizing that spirit solely to make touching grimy grunge rock.
StickyBongWater – No More
Think about starting a band and calling it whatever you like! What a wonderful, terrifying amount of power that is. Imagine a truly disgusting, offensive word you could call it. Now imagine that word printed in bright letters on posters plastered around town. Now imagine the protests and the outrage, followed by the inevitable attack by violent demonstrators. Hey, you did it to yourself!
But the fact remains. You could call your band anything and write whatever kinds of songs you wanted. At least, until the cops show. If you take that further, you can do just about anything with your life. You can make the stupidest choices and end up in a Turkish jailhouse, or make the most brilliant choices for a prolonged amount of time and end up running a dollar exchange service in Buenos Aires. Wow, the power we hold!
The brilliantly stupidly titled StickyBongWater have begun to know their own strength. They want to celebrate it with everyone on their burly, unrefined, and totally catchy “No More.” This is a tune about choices, about realizing that walking out the door is an option available at any time. Now, this is the kind of positive message kids should hear. The fact that it’s delivered by a band called StickyBongWater should make them all the more eager to listen in.
