Sunny Daze & the Weathermen – Wine Mom

Maybe there’s a good, simple reason why people hardly ever outlive the thrills of their early youth. I would suggest that it’s because they’re not the result of experience or clever planning.

Maybe it’s because your mind and body are brand new that each new experience feels so good. But, perhaps, it’s also because there’s no pressure on you to over-analyse things, to make plans, to dose your efforts. Do you need any of that to enjoy the sensational Sunny Daze & the Weathermen, I wonder?

Just like childhood memories are the purest recollections there are, garage rock is the purest form of pop music there is. When the music works, it offers one thing and one thing only – cheap, over-the-top excitement.

What does it feel like? If it works, it should feel like the way you did when you ran across your room at top speed as a kid, for no reason. That’s what Sunny Daze & the Weathermen create with “Wine Mom.” It’s the sort of stuff that’ll probably be illegal soon without a proper ID. You’ll want to keep kids away from this. This is music that denies the complexities of modern life, and what set of grown-ups would want to encourage that?

FRANK – Sick Of Yourself (feat. Zayna from Sweet Pill)

You can’t hide a thought. Not from yourself. Not really. And realising that is enough to keep you on edge. Just like someone directing their acid trip into madness, your bad vibes will get you in trouble… eventually.

Are certain music genres cursed, then? Grunge, for example, produced some of the very best records ever made. That much is obvious. But what happened to all the people who made them? And how much did their interest in dark, twisted thoughts have to do with their downfall? That’s the sort of question that FRANK would dare to ask.

Bad vibes have their power. Great artists know it. But most of them have also found out that there’s a price to pay for utilising these kinds of strategies. Energy has to transform into something. Are you willing to find out what the result is going to be?

FRANK, together with Sweet Pill’s Zayna, creates a shoegaze and grunge hybrid that feels particularly appropriate for 2025. It’s not just because of the general mood, but because both these styles of music have been pushed by the internet back into the attention of the mainstream. But “Sick Of Yourself” dares to ask a question about where all of this negativity can lead. This is, frankly (pun intended!), daring to touch on this kind of territory.
