Birds are better makes pop-folk about wanting to escape a better, more peaceful world.
Meditation apps are all the rage these days. The companies that make these often end up being valued at hundreds of millions of dollars. Clearly, there’s a market for these.
If that doesn’t work, there are also retreats, books about how to meditate, and, well, cults. Some of them offer more extreme versions of the dream of drifting away and letting go of your stress.
Modern man is more obsessed than ever with finding space for his own thoughts to roam free. With so many and seemingly, endless distractions, it’s easy to understand why he’d feel this way.
Birds are better’s “The Plan” is a pleasant hybrid of pop and folk. The gentle vocal melodies sing words of hope. The ambition is to find enough space filled with enough silence in order to find a way, a plan, some meaning. With most people desiring a similar thing for themselves, this can certainly find an audience.
Swamp Music Players – Warrior
Swamp Music Players know that every good story has to include a few shocks along the way, and the approach suits their brand of folk-rock.
The way that society has progressed is through telling stories. That’s the way we share important information. It’s the way we maintain traditions. And it’s also the way we move forward. Stories are the lifeblood of the life with which we’ve become so accustomed.
Not all stories are created equal, of course. Almost everyone will agree that a tale about being abducted by aliens is slightly more exciting than someone’s recollection of visiting the supermarket on a rainy afternoon. Simply put, stories need to contain some drama, and the actors involved need to be playing for big stakes.
Swamp Music Players’ “Warrior” is a folk-rock song. It’s written and performed in a traditional manner that brings to mind the songs of the old. But it is about aliens and the governments who might be hiding them. It makes for a good story. And in an era that seems to announce the UFO craze as the next big thing, this could well become an anthem.
