Texas Resaca Blues – Ey Ey Mama
The best kind of rock n’ roll music is all inviting, friendly and always wants you as a customer. The worst kind is an exclusive club, one where you don’t get a seat at the table unless you’re wearing the right uniform or know someone inside.
And, sure, it’s all the long-haired, leather-wearing biker types playing double-handed tapping on their distorted Jackson guitar who’ve cornered the market on rock virtuosity. But what if history has sold us a lie?
The truth might just be that the original rock music, purified in the form of rockabilly, is the rowdiest, most fun, and most complicated (right) type there is. If you don’t believe me, why not get a refresher from Texas Resaca Blues?
Yes, yes, the band’s old-fashioned. It’s just that in order to do that, what is required are excellent playing skills and the ability to entertain anyone and everyone. “Ey Ey Mama” is old-fashioned in the same way that a Gretsch guitar or a Cadillac is. It’s classy, and mighty good fun.
Takeover – Go Home
No great decisions have ever been taken while nursing a drink. Believe me, I should know. And, there’s no reason why this revelation ought to make me feel awkward about myself. A hell of a lot of people do as well, from kings to prime ministers, from football captains to officers out on the beat.
However, can we really remember that this is the way it happened? Can we really be sure? Because we can’t properly know just what occurred, we’re tempted to romanticise drunken benders. And, while these events haven’t inspired good decisions, they’ve inspired great stories.
Takeover’s “Go Home” is nothing more than a song about milking the final moments of a celebration, of trying to get the most out of something that’s run out of power a while ago. More importantly, Takeover bring the charm, the party atmosphere and the big-time hooks to the song. Everyone can do with a celebration now and again, right?
