The Backlash – Traces
Since the dawn of time, artists, prophets, and people looking to make some kind of dramatic change in their lives have dreamed of exotic getaways. Why? It was the mystery that attracted them to journeys to far-off places. And while the odds never worked in their favour, who was there to say that losing yourself in a foreign land wouldn’t open new doors?
It’s a sound theory. But did they find what they were looking for? Sure, some of them did, and most of them just got lost and nothing more. Great travel books were written this way. Religions were conceived by wandering through the desert. On rare occasions, even some great songs got written.
Nothing changes unless you force circumstances to change, and this includes your day. So, if you feel yourself stuck and lacking inspiration, you might as well check out The Backlash’s “Traces,” a song that functions just like a long, quietly whispered spell. Yes, this is the sonic equivalent of a journey to a remote, exotic place, and a reminder that music needs to be at the heart of all great journeys.
Rare Phantom – nessuna risposta
Rock music, much like public protests, grows in popularity during times of hardship. This is not to say that all of guitar-based music is built around anger, dissatisfaction, or sadness.
But what rock music can do better than most trendy sounds is to express deep, powerful emotions, the kind which typical pop songs, focused so much on mass appeal, shy away from.
The world’s lost, and we’re lost within it. There’s no point in hiding our faults, in disguising the things that have gone wrong. This is what Rare Phantom attempts to do with his nocturnal, alt-rock-inspired sounds.
“nessuna risposta” is rock music that sounds like it’s being beamed down from some underground, request-only party, and feels like it arrives straight from the soul of someone who has needed to fight against losing the things dearest to them. It’s the sound of our collective strife and woes. The kind of music Rare Phantom makes is needed in the world right about now.
