They rarely make westerns about coward cowboys, but they should. Paul Newman’s renegade characters often had a bit of that hidden under the surface.
This is what Gunslinger Blues sounds like. There’s a lot of fanfare about the whole thing. But, even though there isn’t a lot of threat about it, this is a good tune, moved forward by a husky, well-trained voice. The “Ooh, ooh, gunslinger” backing-vocals may be superfluous, but there’s something impressive about the confidence with which this is delivered.
