The Horses – It’s Alright (It’s Summertime)

“Gotta get up early and do some stupid stuff!” That’s how The Horses describe their plans for the Summer holiday, and if you’re one of the people worrying about getting the most out of your holiday and days in the Sun, you’re likely to agree.

Yet, know that stressing over things is something that you’re unlikely to truly ever get rid of. Today it’s the anxiety of not being able to fit all of your beach gear in the car, and tomorrow it could be some routine life-or-death matter.

But life and the Summer happen whether you enjoy them or not. Beautiful melodies are hanging in the air whether you want to hear them. And, British-sounding retro-rock can be played even if you’re from Boston.

The Horses aren’t sweating the petty stuff. “It’s Alright (It’s Summertime)” is a beautiful, jingle-jangle track delivered with the intensity of a punk-rocker who got fired from his job for stealing from the warehouse. Summer happens, and it’s best if you make yourself available for it!

Joshua Hawkes – Feel No More

People are complex mechanisms that tend to break down, rarely work the way that they should and always attract some kind of terrible story to them. But, ironically, people are also the proudest of creatures.

We all are forced to go through hard times once in a while. Yet, most of us travel the road alone and by choice. When we get asked a simple question, like “Are you alright?” we just nod and move along.

Still, pride won’t get you anywhere. It certainly won’t force you to take stock of the situation. And, if that’s describing your own predicament, know that you may have found a friend in Joshua Hawkes.

You listen to the heartbreaking “Feel No More,” and you get the impression that someone as clever and with such gifts for melody could’ve concerned themselves with writing the next chart-topper. Instead, Hawkes’ music is heartbreaking and more revealing than you think would be possible. It’s what honesty, ideally, helps to create.
