The Love Grubs – Bedside
Pop music is by definition immature. Just look at its long and storied history. It was invented, practically, by teenagers, and sold to the world by their greedy parents. Pop songs were initially centred solely around topics like dancing, driving a fast car, and making others think that you were attractive.
And, when it did grow up, it ended up being represented by old rock stars singing the sme old songs about dancing, cars and girls well into what should’ve been their retirement years.
Yeah, pop music can be pretty silly. But it doesn’t have to be. There’s nothing silly about love, as the greatest philosophers will tell you. The Love Grubs are unashamed about seeking love and about looking to grow up.
But will they grow up in each other’s arms? That’s what they’re wondering as well, and “Bedside” lets you know that all of those questions, the yearning and the regrets, are difficult burdens to carry. It’s worthwhile, however, and the charming vocal interplay between the singers is enough to make you believe.
Gregory Ackerman – Lost In You
Most people need to find a hobby and fill their wardrobes with brightly coloured clothes, all tailored with some exotic design in mind. Most people think that getting an eccentric hair-do, a weird-looking frame for their glasses, and brand new sneakers will improve their life. They go online, and they listen to videos advising that they should talk louder when they are in conversation with someone.
Yeah, most people need something to help them stand out. It’s only natural that they should play pretend the way that they do. It makes them feel better about themselves, surely.
There are some, however, like Gregory Ackerman, who manages to do nearly every time that he puts his stories into songs that need very little flash to grab attention.
“Lost In You” is a folkie love song. But it’s not one performed by just any folkie. Ackerman’s singing, his song’s arrangement, and the confidence of his performance nearly always help the music stand out.
