The Mañanas – Love Letter to My Honey

There are a million love songs out there. And, more are being added every single day. However, it’s not an accident that the most famous love tunes are ones that we hear again and again, ones that every generation covers, and every listener knows.

That’s because, in reality, there are very few love songs that we can trust! It’s hard to hide your true intention when writing a love song. It’s difficult not to show your true colours when trying to speak of things that matter so deeply to so many.

A true romantic, someone who is giddy and head-over-heels with their happiness, is, by definition, an eccentric. It’s someone you notice because of the way that they speak, the clothes that they wear, and the way that they walk. That’s why it’s hard not to believe The Mañanas when they tell you that they’re in love.

The world is always waiting for love songs and for great power-pop bands. But the sounds of “Love Letter to My Honey,” the world may have found both these things in The Mañanas. It’s not only the lovely melodies that lift the song. It’s not just the quirky choices and the way that the band integrates retro musical elements. The Mañanas have stumbled onto something that sounds honest and fun, a very rare combination in pop music.

the Dahmers – Underdog

Yeah, I bet that there’s a secret formula that you can reduce every single pop-rock hit that ever happened. But you can’t use machines to do it. You’d need to know what your brand as a musical artist is, and you’d need to be extremely aware of what your audience expects of you.

But, even more importantly, you would need to understand that audiences want to be surprised, thrilled, and put into a bit of danger. That is why, perhaps, the script writers and directs who manage to come up with a great concept for a horror film are, routinely, then able to transform it into a decades-long running franchise.

Getting scared out of your wits and dancing your heart away, at the end of the day, appeals to the same kind of stimuli, really. Can you believe that for so many years, so few artists opted to put those together? Enter, the Dahmers!

Should you not understand English or what the band’s name is referencing, you are bound to think of “Underdog” as a piece of guitar-pop heaven straight from Sweden, the country that leads in power pop innovation. However, if you can dig deeper, you’ll find an obsession with horror, terror and darkness that makes the Dahmers a band, positively, designed for, at the very least, cult classic status.
