The 1975 may draw a lot of opinions from casual listeners. One thing they did manage to do though is make pop music, especially of the 80s variety, seem like a genuine proposition for the indie scenes across the world. Others would suggest that they made it OK for pop singers to disguise themselves as indie-rockers.
This is beside the point. Making 80s inspired easy listening music requires a complex set of skills. It also needs crystal clear pop production. The Morning People make that kind of music.
From a technical standpoint, there’s little to complain about here. The tenor vocals and friendly instrumentation are bound to get teenagers excited. At the end of the day, this is a new guise for pop music.
