Most of the legendary music artists are honored for having foreseen trends. They’re now treated as visionaries. Their gift was looking into the future and creating music that was only going to be appreciated once people were ready for it.
However, being able to understand what’s going on at the present time and acting upon it is nearly just as rare. Few musicians truly have their pulse on what people are feeling and the way that they express their deepest emotions. If you manage to do that, you’re practically guaranteed a hit.
BEACH WEATHER’s “Unlovable” certainly captures the self-loathing zeitgeist. The groove and production work make this sound very familiar. But one would hope that the general public’s feelings go beyond merely taking drugs and feeling bad. While lyrically, this isn’t exactly Dylan, the hook, inspired and assisted by the equally lightly morose Pale Waves, should get Beach Weather playing top festivals soon enough. It’s what it takes.

So, do you think that writing a great song on your acoustic guitar while sitting on your bed is enough to make you a star? I don’t want to disappoint you, but it may not be enough anymore.
It’s not just the fault of evil record execs and greedy managers. So many of us want that satisfaction that we’ve created incredible inflation. What this means is that you’ll need the presentation, too, the trendy sounds and the pristine production to give it a chance.
The Parade’s “I’m a Dreamer” is a nice snapshot of pop music in 2023. It sounds both intimate and designed to be played in large halls for people dancing slowly. The vocals sound confident but moody.
The song also bears a striking resemblance to White Town’s “Your Woman.” But that’s wholly a bad thing. Taking inspiration from great sources is a sign of intelligence. And, in 2023, getting a hit involves much more than simply writing wholly original songs. Frankly, it’s all so much work.
