The Slim Kings are retro apostles, renouncing all recording techniques that appeared post-1971. They are inspired by the sound of the Byrds and the Rolling Stones, feature two younger industry pros, and the legendary drumming of Liberty Devitto.
I was always distrustful of analog equipment, in a world where computers seem to be able to make everything quicker and cheaper. But, yes, the results displayed by the Slim Kings justify the pains of recording their music so old-fashionedly. The sound is soft, warm, and hazy, as if it’s been pulled straight off from an AOR radio station from a different time.
