The Two Tracks – Seasons Unknown

City folk are, of course, arrogant. But, in their defence, they’ve been programmed to be that way. After all, few of them were actually born in the city, and certainly almost none of their parents. For them to get here, someone had to make a choice to make the long voyage, take the chances, and get to work. And did it all get them? Stuck with another bunch of city folk.

We tend to think of the people who live in the beautiful countryside as folks who have been placed there by the wisdom of the heavens and are forced to live their lives this way forever. But what if it’s the magic of the outdoors that keeps them there? What if the same thing that makes people want to visit from their big cities and sigh whenever they stare up at the stars is what draws people into living there?

The Two Tracks’ “Seasons Unknown” is a retro-tinged country-pop song about old, powerful roots. It’s a song about the mysteries of the great outdoors and the pull that these have on people’s lives. What’s most remarkable, however, is the sound that The Two Tracks produce, a mixture of truthful, honest Americana and pleasing modern pop-rock.

Eric Mann – What Did Your Father Do to You?

Some might say, and I’ve heard the argument being spoken often, that pop-rock music in all its forms gives a false representation of the world. Why, you look up at all those people on stage looking confident, composed and able to impress audiences with their wonderful creations, and you think that this is the standard we should all adhere to.

Most people, and especially those drawn toward pop-rock music and art, in general, however, are far from perfect. They hurt, fear, and feel inclined to make bad choices for reasons that they cannot explain. Eric Mann understands all this and plays the part of the empathy-driven creator.

Psychologists say, and there’s reason to believe them, that most of our poorest choices are the result of some kind of past trauma. “What Did Your Father Do to You?” is a dark, modern country rock song about the weight of the past, and about how a bit of empathy can go a long way. Mann’s baritone singing and words across the song are powerful.
