Tracy Jack Reed – LIL BiT

If you’ve got the sensation that the people around you are simply having a better time than you are, you are not the only one thinking that. Everyone, seemingly, is obsessed with parties that they don’t get invited to and with people who are happier than they are.

But, if you’re going to choose anyone to feel envious about, might as well find someone worthy of this kind of attention. If you’re going to have an ideal that is nearly impossible to live up to, make it someone who deserves it.

Tracy Jack Reed sounds like the kind of person who can fashion a six-string guitar out of an old, dead tree, who can ride a tidal wave on the skin of that tree, and who’s got the rare ability to find joy and calm no matter the circumstances. Ain’t that something to feel jealous about?

“LIL BiT” has a lo-fi Jack Johnson-like vibe, a kind of jazzy folk sound that feels just right for the folks who simply can’t wait any longer for Summer to arrive. Sounds aside, Tracy Jack Reed portrays himself as the ultimate hopeless romantic, as someone equipped to deal with any dangers with a smile on his face and with undying words of love for this world.

Skinny Dippers – Please Be Kind, Rewind

It’s easier to be a miserable bastard than to be anyone else. Believe me, I should know! And, frankly, once you choose this as an identity, it’s the kind of armour that, many times, helps you to face the world, to see life as it really is.

When things fall apart, you just nod your head and say: “I told you it would!” When nothing works out, you’re just content with having known it always would. And, when relationships disintegrate, you feel just a little less upset about it than the other person.

But it’s a losing game just the same, and if you are a cynic, you’re playing to lose every single hand until the fateful end. Optimists are a rare bunch. They’re almost unheard of in intelligent pop music. That’s why Skinny Dippers might need a little cheering up from you!

“Please Be Kind, Rewind” is that rare kind of breakup song that doesn’t blame the other person and call them names, nor does it find the storyteller crying in their whiskey jar. Nah, this is a beautifully performed song about helping thighs grow and seeing stories to their logical conclusion. Skinny Dippers are a rare bunch!
