Tryzlador – Dragon Days
The trick, if you’re trying to sell entertainment, is to make all of the people in attendance feel like the singers, movie actors and fashion models are just like their cousin who has returned from Summer Camp with a bunch of stories that they need to tell you.
Personality is important because content, for the most part, isn’t. Many actors barely read the scripts before agreeing to star in a production, pop stars get their demos through email and fashion models are rarely asked about preferences.
That’s why it is unusual when you hear a really talented, albeit oddball, entertainer be wholly revealing. The impression is, somehow, even greater, as in the case of Tryzlador, when their statements are hidden between rhymes and metaphors.
Yeah, there’s something appealing and satisfying about Tryzlador’s “Dragon Days,” like some eerie pop song nursery rhyme that comes on the radio and makes perfect sense while the singer is busy speaking in tongues. But, beyond that, digging deeper, this also feels like a declaration of war against the cruelities of fate, and a very honest performance by a songwriter with great potential. Tryzlador could sing this in Farsi, and it’d feel the same.
Monolith Ascension Collective – Holotape 801
I’m telling you that there’s something besides the endless gruesome news bulletins because I’ve seen it. You must have faith that not everyone in this world is part of a death cult, assuring us that the end is nigh.
And, even if the world was ending, wouldn’t dancing the night away with people that you can trust seem like the better alternative to hysterically shouting off your balcony into the sunset? That just seems like a waste of energy.
As it turns out, there’s a party in every town that celebrates life, hopefulness and positive energy. Don’t you know that there are musicians out there trying to expose the truth one dance groove at a time? That’s certainly what Monolith Ascension Collective sound like they’re doing.
Maybe they’re stuck inside a bunker. Or, perhaps, they’re breathing in the fresh air on a beach somewhere. But Monolith Ascension Collective’s “Holotape 801” is the well-played, brilliantly-crafted psych-disco party soundtrack that you need in your life. And, it may prove to be the ultimate litmus test. Play this to a friend, and if they still insist on telling you how bad the world is, you can’t be friends anymore!
