Twenny Bucks – Small Green Frog

Iggy Pop used to strip half-naked and throw himself onto a floor covered in broken glass. Think that was pretty nihilistic, huh? That’s the kind of thing that, nowadays, makes so much sense that it could get you a respectable job in politics.

The most nihilistic thing that you could write about this instance is to paint a smile on your face and laugh your head off at all the serious business going on in the world.

Wars, health crises, and economic downturns. They’re all somebody else’s problem. They’re not something that you’re going to figure out how to solve on your own anyway. Why not embrace the humour and absurdity of it as Twenny Bucks does?

You get the feeling that Twenny Bucks nothing is worth enough that it deserves to be taken seriously. “Small Green Frog” is a multi-media attack about trying your best, until all you really want is to become a small amphibious creature that doesn’t get any serious, but dumb questions anymore. It’s what the world needs right now.

Nicole Sabouné – Lubnan (لبنان)

The world’s beautiful and inviting. It’s waiting to show you how beautiful it is, in fact. It’s looking to sit you down and give you a big old talk about how we’re all the same, how all those differences that the news reports might have made you believe exist are just rubbish, and how, one day, it’ll all be alright for everyone.

That’s a mighty inviting, exciting truth. But there are people fighting against you hearing it. There are people whose businesses earn a profit each time that you begin to fear, close up and show no interest in the world. Nicole Sabouné, on the other hand, is one of those who wants you to be both courageous and romantic.

“Lubnan (لبنان)” is a rock song with an experimental edge. It’s music designed to sound ecstatic. It’s a travelogue, a story about finding common ground with people from a different land, and the silliness of borders, wars and countries. Like the land being sung about, “Lubnan (لبنان)” has an undeniable charm, one built on history and the care of people.
