I was never more removed from pop-alternative music as a few years ago. Then, looking to find my way back towards what the kids were listening to, I began attending all festivals in my general proximity. To my surprise, the sound that dominated the stages was an 80s pastiche of pop, sweet vocals, and electro-grooves underneath all the saccharine the frosting.
Val Astaire comes from the same neighborhood. Yes, it’s as poppy as it gets and studied for commercial appeal. Nobody will mistake this for an art-house project.
But, the quality of the recording and its aim at getting everyone down in the summer mud to dance t this, is worthy of some consideration.
