SATE – The Fool
Genre: Punk-rock
SATE looks back on the traditions of the blues, and of punk in order to forge a road forward.
It takes a lot of energy to get noticed. It takes just as much energy not to get noticed. There’s a good effort involved in raising someone up, including oneself. There’s much more effort needed to tear someone down.
People will always buy into the idea of rock n’ roll. A lot of it has to do with the tunes. But, an even greater part involves the confidence needed to make art and present it to others. People like to see others like themselves choosing to put in the effort of pulling themselves up.
SATE’s short movie/song presentation on The Fool showcases the belief that taking risks is the best use of one’s energy. There’s the blues, there’s punk, and there’s soul here. But, all are used to try and create a new language. Ultimately, it’s a testament to individuality and to the effort required in simply becoming yourself.
Vincent Paraboschi – Fly away ft. Pierre Lecarpentier
Genre: Grunge, Alternative-rock
Vincent Paraboschi channels grunge’s psychedelic leanings on the single Fly away.
Music trends don’t exactly move in cycles. Music scenes simply run up the mountain at top speed. Once there a period of rest is required to keep moving.
This is, in many ways, what happened to alternative rock. In the early 1990s, it was a commercial force. The Seattle sound is known as grunge, in particular, was inescapable. It has permeated pop culture in the way that few things do.
While the scene contained a large array of highly talented people, the overexposure, eventually, had the effect of alienating future audiences. The ability of the musicians involved was undeniable. But, audiences needed some time to learn to appreciate it again.
The time may have just come now. The time may also be right for Vincent Paraboschi. The talented singer brings his own take on the misty sound of alt-rock. Fly away is a good mix of psychedelic rock and grunge power. Most remarkable is the singing that features a great tone that serves as a nod to Seattle’s finest.
