Waldo Witt – Perfect Holiday
Don’t worry! In fact, try not to worry for as long as possible this Summer. If you’ve acquired any tricks or strategies about how to chase that constant nagging inside of your mind, do it! Don’t, for a second, think that you’re being selfish. After all, Summer is a thing worth enjoying, not just a way to escape from the daily grind, but because calm people are people capable of making more rational decisions.
But don’t expect the world to get better while you’re not looking at it. No, sirree, things do stay the same, or only get worse. Holidaying is a worthwhile distraction, but we are fated to live with discomfort and need to solve issues and put out fires everywhere that we go. Waldo Witt excellently captures these ideas.
“Perfect Holiday” is a breezy mix of tropical-infused indie rock and pleasant jazz. Play this at a respectable level, and your stress is bound to melt away. But, dig deeper into the way that the song is constructed and you’ll be treated with tales of things breaking apart, plans not coming to fruition, and ideas that require readjusting. Ah, there’s a bit of hell in every paradise!
Wade Easy – Dead Moons
Most of the people, this writer included, can’t accept the truth when it’s simply and directly revealed to them. Most people won’t believe unless the full story is whispered to them and broken up into tiny fragments that they are then tasked with piecing back together. It’s this nature that’s the start of many great mysteries.
That’s why people spend their money to visit Stonehenge or the Great Pyramids of Egypt. It’s why people take the time to talk slowly through the forest or to listen to the rumble of the waves. And it’s what many hope that they will find inside the murmur of an electric guitar trying to get to the truth as Wade Easy does.
In a different setting and with much louder production settings, “Dead Moons” could be a Nordic black-metal song. It is, after all, a song built to be enigmatic and designed to embrace nocturnal energies. Wade Easy’s greatest strength is getting you to lean in, open up your ears, listen as attentively as you can.
