Why Dogs Why – Play The Hits
Listen, the people are tired! Their eyes are red from staying up all night watching 20-second videos of cats jumping out of trees and celebrities parading their new automobiles. They’ve heard about one hundred jingles today, just as they went about their regular chores. The longest text most of them have read will have been an angry message from their landlord sent through a WhatsApp group.
People crave familiarity. Most of us don’t want to work for our entertainment. But what about the artists looking to achieve something more than that? The members of Why Dogs Why are frustrated, sure. But they’re also taking it all with a bit of good cheer and refusing to dilute their work. The world won’t listen unless you become just like everyone else. But once you do, what’s the point of paying attention anyway?
“Play the Hits” is a sonic exploration. It features a lush arrangement made up of tender melodies, warm grooves and guitars that sound like landing space ships. There are even some Beach Boys-style backing vocals thrown in for good measure. All of this must take a lot of work and a decent amount of heart pouring. But where’s the conclusion to all this toil? Someone in the audience will just yell out “Freebird,” sure. Or worse. But it matters little. Why Dogs Why won’t do as they told, will not play the hits, or dumb things down. Now, that’s something to look forward to.
Zach Bellas – Congratulations
There aren’t many circuses left around that you can join. They don’t really hire people to sail out into the Northern Seas unless they possess experience. And, haven’t you heard that the army just kills people?
It doesn’t pay much, the hours are terrible, and you might get laughed at from time to time. But joining a rock band might be your best alternative. Zach Bellas sounds like a band constructed as a result of those frustrations, and things are looking up for them.
You might need to curb back on fantasies about limousines and gold-plated swimming pools when you make that life choice? But like the prophets travelling through mountain villages, you’ll get fed, see the world, and, most importantly, you’ll get to say exactly what you mean.
“Congratulations” by Zach Bellas is a song about quickly falling out of love with someone and, instead, being annoyed at every little thing that they do. Many people have felt it! Few admitted it to themselves. Even fewer had an outlet for those feelings. It all means that the trio’s brand of alt-rock is made honestly and that an audience already exists for it. Sometimes, it pays to skip town and do something else!
