Wonderfun and DONEFOR Reviewed
Wonderfun – Bunch Of Idiots (the football song)
They used to call it “The Beautiful Game” and went so far as to nickname it “The People’s Game.” Of course, these terms seem completely ridiculous now. The game’s been stolen away from the people one $100 water bottle at a time.
The football World Cup is about to start, and it’s the greatest sporting event on the planet. But you’re more likely this time around to have heard about it thanks to accusations of corruption and mismanagement from FIFA, football’s governing body, and its North American partners who are organising the event just like a desert-placed casino.
It’s a racket, but I’m sorry to say we’ll watch anyway. They’ve got our attention. Still, that doesn’t mean we won’t complain every step of the way. It’s customary for new football chants to be created during these periods. And Sweden’s Wonderfun has got an anthem you ought to sing with your friends.
It’s called “Bunch Of Idiots (the football song).” It’s honest, inspiring and a bit naive, just like the game itself nowadays. It’s meant to be chanted, not sung. And, judging by what defenders Sweden’s got this time around, Wonderfun can also use it when, inevitably, the Nordic nation drops out of the tournament in the first knockout stage after a botched penalty shootout.
DONEFOR – THIS IS HOW WE BREAK
Peace and love are both, certainly, great things and ideals to strive for. Sure, we should all prepare every day to embrace them and to spread more of these things in the world. But the intention behind them, while great, helps very little in developing the world. Not much is actually created by people who just whisper positive affirmations throughout the day.
Everything worthwhile in this world has been created by toil, ambition and fighting to reach a goal. And everyone who has tried to do these things has also found themselves bruised, beaten and forced to start over a bunch of times. That’s why people need a soundtrack to the art of falling apart and getting back up again.
DONEFOR’s “THIS IS HOW WE BREAK” tries to provide the right kind of sounds and mood for the people who have had the stuffing kicked out of them on their way to meet their goal, but who refuse to give up. The band works within the post-hardcore meets pop-punk format, delivering music that is heavy, yet palatable, bitter and sweet, much like life when you try and make the best of it.
