Pep Talk – Next To Me
Genre: Punk, Pop Punk, Pop Rock
Pep Talk bring casualness and fun to their pop-punk mix on the single Next to me.
Being on a stage, in front of people is unnatural. And, that’s one of the reasons why we love it so much. We all adore seeing regular people beating the odds, doing something improbable, and doing it well. Playing live music is just the same as giving a political speech, or walking the proverbial tightrope.
But, just take a look at musicians’ faces before taking a stage, before starting to play their music. Most of them will begin wearing a mask. For most of them, the mask won’t even be glued well on. The default mode for most musicians is to behave either too seriously, or too ridiculously.
Pep Talk seem to adopt a different strategy for their single Next to Me. They play it naturally. They’re neither jokesters nor misanthropes. Writing a love song seems to come naturally to them, as does the speed and power that they use to propel it. These are the kinds of folks you bet can’t be bothered to tell a lie.
Yolk – Daddy Adidas
Genre: Punk, Grunge, Garage Rock
Rock doesn’t need to be smart. In fact, the sillier the song, the higher the chance that it will be entertaining. Rock has always taken humour before intelligence, and our shared history of pop culture is better because of it.
Now, humor doesn’t need to only be about frivolous topics. In fact, there’s no topic, or trauma severe enough that it doesn’t deserve being laughed at. If you believe some of the head shrink experts, being able to laugh at a painful memory is the best way to ensure that you’ll overcome it.
Yolk attempt to bring both the humour and anguish forth on their single Daddy Adidas. Short, fiery, and punchy, Yolk create a sound that resembles the most exuberant punk-rock bands of old. If you don’t find what you’re looking for here, you might just need to check yourself, turn down all the holiday music, and pledge yourself to punk-rock once more.
