It’s interesting to consider that most of the strangest characters in rock music’s collective story spent their youth in the middle of nowhere. Whether it was small towns in the U.S.A. or poverty-stricken nations in Europe, those experiences are character-building.
They’re not fun though, no matter how it may seem from the outside. It leaves these young artists, often, looking at their more experienced counterparts, the ones living on the edge of society, living free, with green-eyed envy.
Woolfy’s tender, clever observations on When We Were Kings sound like they belong to that world. Beyond the picked acoustic guitar, there’s a desire for escape and for the experience. Young artists usually find the world that they’re looking for, but first, they have to escape the one with which they got stuck. Woolfy creates an appropriate, accompanying soundtrack.
mehro – like you’re god
Genre: Lo-fi Rock, Indie Rock, Alternative Rock
The louder the world gets, the louder musicians feel like they need to become. Most of them. In fact, if Deep Purple were breaking records for their volume and muscular rock tone in their day, they sound soft rock compared to their modern counterparts.
Not everyone is looking to compete on the decibel scale. Not all musical artists believe that an audience must witness them engage in creative heavy lifting. Some of the best can get by on the smallest of sounds.
This is what mehro does on the sensational like you’re god. Using, for the most part, a simple bass line, and falsetto vocals, mehro creates a song that is both sensuous and sinister. Best of all, there’s nothing lacking here. It’s the kind of sound that should send musicians scrambling to get rid of some of their gear, erase some of their lyrics, and clean up their acts.
